NEET Photo and Signature Size — NTA Application Upload Requirements
NEET Photograph and Signature Upload Requirements
The National Testing Agency asks NEET candidates for more images than most application forms — in recent cycles a passport-size photograph, a postcard-size photograph, and a signature, each uploaded separately. The postcard photograph in particular surprises candidates who have only prepared a passport shot.
Always confirm against the current notification. Exam boards revise upload rules between cycles. The figures below reflect the requirements published for the most recent cycle at the time of writing — treat them as a starting point and check the official notice or the upload page itself before you submit.
The specification
| Upload | File size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Passport photograph | Per current notice | White background, 80% face coverage |
| Postcard photograph | Per current notice | 4 × 6 inch, white background |
| Signature | Under 30 KB | 3.5 × 1.5 cm, running handwriting |
NTA has revised the exact KB windows between cycles more often than SSC or IBPS have, so the photograph limits above deliberately point you at the current notice rather than quoting a figure that may already be stale. The signature requirement — 3.5 × 1.5 cm and under 30 KB — has been the more stable of the two.
The postcard photograph
This is a 4 × 6 inch print, not an enlargement of the passport shot. Recent notifications have required the candidate's name and the date the photograph was taken to appear on it. Because it is a much larger physical print, photograph it flat and evenly lit — a shot taken at an angle produces keystoning that is obvious at that size.
How to hit the size limit without wrecking the photo
The common mistake is dragging a quality slider down until the file is small enough. That produces a blurred, blocky image that fails visual verification even when the file size passes. Do it in this order instead:
- Set the pixel dimensions first. A phone photo is often 4000 × 3000 px. Resizing to the dimensions given in the current NTA notice removes the vast majority of the file weight before any compression is applied, and it does so without introducing artefacts.
- Then compress to the target. With the resolution already correct, reaching 20–30 KB needs only mild compression, so the face stays sharp.
- Check the lower bound too. Portals reject files that are under the minimum as often as over the maximum. If the result lands below 20 KB, raise the quality rather than leaving it.
Photograph the signature or scan it on plain white paper in good light. A grey or shadowed background forces the compressor to spend bytes describing noise instead of the strokes themselves.
Common NEET rejection causes
- Face too small in frame. NTA specifies that the face should occupy roughly 80% of the photograph.
- Missing name or date on the postcard photograph where the notification requires it.
- Signature in capitals. It must be in running handwriting.
- Coloured background. White is required; even light beige is flagged.
- Selfies. Notifications have explicitly excluded them.
Every step runs inside your browser through WebAssembly. Your photograph and signature — both documents that identify you — are never uploaded to a server, never stored, and never seen by anyone but you. For an application containing your name, date of birth and photograph, that matters more than convenience.
Frequently asked questions
What is the required signature size for NEET?
The signature should be roughly 3.5 × 1.5 cm and under 30 KB in JPEG, written in running handwriting. Signatures in block capitals are rejected.
Why does NEET ask for a postcard photograph?
NTA requires a 4 × 6 inch postcard-size photograph in addition to the passport-size one. Recent notifications have also required your name and the date the photograph was taken to be printed on it.
Can I use a selfie for the NEET application?
No. NTA notifications have explicitly excluded selfies. The photograph must be a proper front-facing shot against a white background with the face occupying about 80% of the frame.
What file size does NEET require for the photograph?
NTA has changed the photograph size windows between cycles more often than other boards, so check the KB limits in the notification for your year rather than relying on figures from a previous cycle.
